Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) CEO Elon Musk attended Vivatech 2023 in Paris Friday where he revealed that his company is close to achieving fully autonomous vehicles, adding autonomy was the "main driver" of the brand's market value.
TSLA shares jumped by as much as 3% to their highest level in more than eight months.
"Although I've said this before, I think we will solve autonomy soon," the billionaire told the VivaTech conference. "The value of the company is primarily on the basis of autonomy," Musk told the Paris event. "That's really, I think, the main driver of our value."
Earlier on Friday, Musk met with French President Emmanuel Macron for the second time in just over a month. French officials hope to persuade Musk to select France as the location for his upcoming Tesla gigafactory in Europe.
Shares of TSLA are up 2.10% in afternoon trading on Friday.
