OpenAI is set to unveil its AI-powered search product on Monday, Reuters reported Friday, intensifying its competition with Google (GOOGL).
Although the announcement date is not final, it has not been publicly disclosed before.
Reports from Bloomberg and The Information have highlighted that Microsoft-backed (MSFT) OpenAI is developing a search product to challenge Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOGL)'s Google, as well as Perplexity, a well-funded AI search startup.
The announcement could align with the start of Google's annual I/O conference on Tuesday, where the tech giant is expected to reveal various AI-related products.
OpenAI’s new search product, an extension of its ChatGPT AI tool, will allow ChatGPT to directly access web information and include citations, Bloomberg News said.
While industry analysts have viewed ChatGPT as a promising alternative for retrieving information online, it has faced challenges in delivering accurate, real-time web data.
OpenAI has integrated Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT)'s Bing search engine for paid users to address this issue. In response, Google has incorporated generative AI features into its leading search engine.
