Investing.com – American Airlines stock (NASDAQ:AAL) traded 1.3% lower Thursday following a report in The Wall Street Journal that the carrier plans to trim the number of international flights next summer because Boeing hasn’t delivered new 787 Dreamliners owing to production problems.
The routes likely to be affected by the decision include Edinburgh, Shannon, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing and Sydney. The carrier isn’t bringing back seasonal flights to Prague or Dubrovnik, Croatia, and it is delaying the launch of certain routes, such as from Seattle to Bengaluru. The flight to India’s Silicon Valley was to begin next month.
Deliveries are expected to resume by April 1, 2022, at the earliest, which is later than previously anticipated, the WSJ report said.
Boeing (NYSE:BA) halted Dreamliner deliveries in October last year and has since been coordinating with the regulators for inspections so it can deliver the planes to its clients.
The manufacturer in October said its 787-production rate was approximately two planes per month. It said it expected to continue at that rate until deliveries resumed and then return to five per month over time, still a slow rate.
