Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) is said by The Wall Street Journal to be testing a feature that shows products in a TikTok-style photo and video feed.
The feature being tested on the Amazon app with a small number of Amazon employees would allow users to share the products with other users, the WSJ said its sources told them.
With TikTok experiencing enormous growth through its short video format, other tech companies are trying to get in on the action by testing similar layouts. For example, Meta (NASDAQ:META) built its Reels product as Instagram's TikTok competitor.
The WSJ report said the portal is being trialed under the internal name "Inspire," and appears as a diamond widget on the Amazon app home page of Amazon's app. In addition, they said that artificial intelligence firm Watchful Technologies has tracked the feature's use, and most of the feed, currently appearing as still pictures, also has video content.
The WSJ cautioned that Amazon could still significantly alter the "Inspire" feature before launching it to the public or not release it at all.
