Investing.com-- Donald Trump plans to name Jamieson Greer as the U.S. Trade Representative, Bloomberg reported on Tuesday, amid growing concerns over increased import tariffs under a Trump administration.
Greer is an attorney who has practised U.S. trade law, and had served as chief of staff under U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer during Trump’s first term- which saw the U.S. and China engage in a dire trade war.
The Bloomberg report comes just a day after Trump threatened to impose an additional 10% import tariff on China and a 25% import tariff on Canada and Mexico, claiming that the move was to curb the flow of illegal immigrants and illicit drugs into the U.S.
Trump named Howard Lutnick as his choice for Commerce Secretary last week, with Lutnick expected to have direct oversight of the trade representative.
