Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) is recalling 11,688 Cybertruck electric pickup trucks due to a potential windshield wiper failure that could impair visibility and increase the risk of a crash, according to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

In addition, Tesla is recalling 11,383 Cybertrucks because of an issue with the trunk bed trim, which may have been improperly attached, a defect that could cause the trim to become loose and create a road hazard for other motorists, as noted in a separate NHTSA notice.

The news comes after Tesla recalled nearly 4,000 Cybertrucks in April to address an issue with an accelerator pedal pad.

The recalls represent the latest blow for Tesla’s recently launched electric pickup vehicle, whose mass production is slated to begin next year. The company has not yet revealed the number of trucks delivered to consumers in its quarterly deliveries and production report.

Deliveries of the Blade Runner-inspired truck began in November 2023 after several years of delays and a challenging production ramp-up. CEO Elon Musk referred to this period as Tesla digging its own "grave."

In a Monday letter announcing the recalls, NHTSA said, "Excessive electrical current can cause the front windshield wiper motor controller to fail."

Tesla's service team will replace the wiper motor and apply an adhesion promoter and pressure-sensitive tape, or replace the missing trim at no cost for affected vehicles, the letters indicated.

According to a report by recall management firm BizzyCar, Tesla had three recalls in the first quarter of this year, affecting approximately 2.4 million vehicles.
