MANILA, Dec 11 (Reuters) - Nickel content of ores extracted
in the Philippines, the world's biggest exporter of the material
to top metals consumer China, dropped 12% in the first nine
months of the year, as a dozen mines reported zero output,
government data showed on Friday.
The Southeast Asian country's nickel output in
January-September period totalled 233,522 tonnes compared with
264,351 tonnes in the same period last year, the Mines and
Geosciences Bureau (MGB) said.
Only 18 of the 30 nickel miners in the country, where some
projects had been hampered by the COVID-19 pandemic, reported
output to the bureau for the period, the agency said.
